St. Francis of Assisi Raven Drama Club
St. Francis of Assisi Junior High has a rich tradition of performing a musical or play each spring. Adult and student volunteers direct and produce this extra curricular activity. Eligible participants include all 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students at our school.
Casting/Rehearsals:
- Tryouts will generally be announced in January, with productions performed in March or April, depending on the school calendar.
- Lead roles will be assigned primarily to 8th graders, supporting roles and chorus parts filled by 6th and 7th graders.
- A rehearsal schedule will be provided at a parent’s meeting that will be scheduled following the announcement of casting assignments.
- Rehearsals will be primarily following school and an occasional evening, with a Saturday dress rehearsal on the weekend prior to the production.
- Expect the last month of rehearsals to be 4-5 days a week.
Additional Drama Club Opportunities:
- Past musical productions have included a pit orchestra, directed by our band director. Students currently taking band lessons may participate, with the help of volunteer St. Francis of Assisi School Alumni and Lourdes High School band members.
- Volunteers for Stage Crew will be assigned to run lighting, curtains, sets and sound. An 8th grade stage manager will be appointed.
- Parent involvement is always appreciated. There are many opportunities that will be discussed at the parent meeting prior to the start of rehearsals.
Fees:
- A small fee will be collected to cover the price of the scripts. $15 will likely cover this cost.
- A free will offering will be collected at the performances to defray the other costs of the production.
Performances:
- The 2008-09 school year production will be performed the weekend of April 24th and 25th.
- A dress rehearsal will be performed, for the students of St. Francis, during school hours the week prior to the performances. Date and time will be announced.
